The Battery Truck is a Hitachi development, aligned with its Road to Zero plan. The electrification is 100%, with 0 emissions. The project is led by Hitachi in cooperation with ABB. It consists of replacing the diesel engine with an On-board power system, which is basically a battery bank. This receives dynamic load from the transmission lines of the Trolley System, when the truck is going uphill, and also regenerates energy, when the truck goes downhill.
Naturally, there is the option of a direct or static recharge of the battery bank through a connection point with the local electrical network. The logistics and distribution necessary to guarantee the regular supply of static energy is still a challenge.
This technology is in full development, the tests will begin soon in Australia and an international launch is expected at the end of the tests.
